Real EstateReal estate is basically a plot of land, and anything built upon it. It is an Americanism that is used more frequently in the UK to describe some land with anything permanent attached to it, such as buildings. Other words such as real property, realty, personal property, chattel, personalty are also Americanisms closely associated or synonymous with the term real estate. New Build PropertyA new build property is a house or a flat bought directly from the builder or developer. It is essentially a brand new property that has not been lived in by anyone else. Land InvestmentOne cheap way of getting yourself onto the property market is to invest in some land, and then either sell it on or build a property on that land. The advantage here is that it will cost less than purchasing land with property already on it, and in some cases the cost of building a house of block of flats on the property will be less than buying the property in the first place. Building a property can be risky as sometimes things can go wrong with the construction work, but land investment is still a viable option. Freehold PropertyThis is a situation where both the property for sale and the land on which it stands belong to their owner indefinitely. Freehold property differs from leasehold property where you purchase the occupancy of all or part of a building for a set length of time.
